A SUCCESSFUL SPRING CLEAN-UP
Thank you to everyone who
assisted with St. Anne’s clean up last Sunday. Your
hands and fellowship were appreciated by all.
ATTENTION GRASS CUTTERS!
Spring is here and the grass is growing! We are
scheduling now for volunteers to help with mowing
the church lawn beginning on the weekend of May 17th.
If you can help us mow this summer, please sign up
for a few dates on the list that is posted. Contact
Aaron Groves at 401-2054 if you have questions.
GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
The leadership is encouraging
each family at St.Anne's to seize a golden
opportunity to make a 2008 Golden
Donation to St. Anne's.
Most of us will be receiving economic stimulus tax
rebates of $300 to more than $1200 this tax year.
We did not anticipate this generous gift last fall
when we made our annual pledges. We are asking that
you pray and consider donating 10% of this tax
refund to St. Anne's General Operating Fund to
further our ministries and mission. Please
designate any gifts to 2008 Golden Donation
on your check memo. We appreciate
your prayers and generosity.
REACTIVATION OF IOWA CURSILLO
Bishop Scarfe has asked each
congregation to help identify past and present
Cursillistas that may be interested in providing the
foundation for renewing the movement in Iowa. For
those who may not be familiar with Cursillo, it is
an activity designed to provide people an encounter
with Christ and His call to serve. The Bishop would
like to start by identifying those persons within
the Diocese who have participated in Cursillo and to
explore putting together a committee to assist with
this ministry. If you are interested, please contact
the Bishop or Fr. Bob.
DIOCESAN SUMMER MINISTRY SCHOOL & RETREAT
The 19th annual
Episcopal Diocesan Ministry School and Retreat for
laity, clergy, families and singles will be held on
June 27-29, 2008 at Grinnell College. A wide
variety of soulful and mind-stretching courses,
worship, singing, fellowship, workshops, and
rejuvenation opportunities are offered for everyone
to choose from. There are four different workshops
on Friday, 21 discovery tracks, and several
different Saturday afternoon “rejuvenation
activities” to choose from. For information and/or
to register, go to: http://www.iowaepiscopal.org/ministries/ministries_retreat.php.
NEWSLETTER OPTIONS

would prefer to receive your newsletter by mail

WHAT IS “GODLY PLAY” ANYWAY?
St. Anne’s and many other
Episcopal churches have begun using the Godly Play
curriculum for Youth Christian Education. But what
is this program and how does it work? The program
strives to get the children to “wonder” about the
stories and experiences in the Bible. For example,
we have wondered about the Good Shepherd as we
followed Him outside for our lesson about all of His
people from around the world coming to His table.
We will have wondered about our Holy Eucharist and
our prayer book with the help of photos taken during
recent worship services. This is an old story told
in a new way.
On May 4, at 10:00 am, our
young people will go on a field trip to the sacristy
to find out what mysteries lurk behind that door.
They will learn about those strange robes that our
priests wear and the meaning of the cloth
furnishings that adorn our sanctuary. I wonder if
you could identify a chasuble or a stole, or if you
know how the colors on the altar help us tell time?
At 10:30 our 3-5 graders will hear a fascinating new
story about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. They even
get to light candles! Our younger class will
experience the transformation of the synagogue and
upper room to a model of the Christian church as we
know it today. They will see the liturgy of the Word
joined to the liturgy of the table and much more.
May 11 is a BIG DAY – It’s
Pentecost, and it’s Mother’s Day. Children will
sing with Andrew at 10:00 am, and all youth will
process at the beginning of the 10:30 service. The
younger Godly Players will hear the story of
Pentecost. While our 3-5th graders will
hear a story never presented to them in Godly Play
before. It is the story of Saul, who became Paul
when he discovered the power of the Holy Spirit. We
will learn of his travels and wonder. This lesson
will prepare us for the BIG story of the Holy
Trinity.
May 18 – Trinity Sunday – the
last day of our traditional Sunday School year. The
younger Godly Play class will experience the story
of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The 3-5th
graders will wonder how the story of Paul, the story
of Jesus, the story of Creation can all be connected
in the story of Baptism. Do you wonder too? This
is a big, big story, so be here by 10:00 to hear it
all. If any of this has you wondering, come join
us!
