Adult Formation

Adult Formation is a commitment to a lifelong adult learning process from birth to the grave. St Anne’s offers variety of learning opportunities.

Spiritual Direction: There are currently seven men and women that meet monthly with a spiritual director to receive support in prayer, spiritual growth and theological review of events and challenges they are facing in life. Presently Ron and Brenda McCartney are offering to meet others for spiritual direction along with Fr. Bob Kem. Appointment times each month are arranged individually with each spiritual director. If you would like to know more about spiritual direction, please contact Fr. Bob Kem 964-5152 rector@saechurch.org. There are a limited number of openings in this area.

Small Group Study: Small Group Studies take place on a periodic basis as we begin the season of Advent or Lent where Bible studies or book studies are offered throughout the season for 6-8 weeks in length Check the newsletter and weekly bulletins for start and stop times.

Education for Ministry (EFM) is a program of theological education offered by extension through the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Completion of the program takes four years during which participants study Old and New testaments, church history, and 20th century theology. Classes meet weekly for nine months in seminars led by a trained mentor.

EFM is for laypersons for the church who have not attended seminary. Every Christian receives the call to Christ’s ministry at baptism. You will find that EFM teaches you how to know think theologically, deepens your faith and your understanding of our Christian heritage and provides you with anew confidence to be Christ’s minister. The EFM Coordinator for Des Moines is The Rev. Jean McCarthy 515-266-1304 or mikeandjeanmcc@msn.com.

OSL Healing Prayer Teams are trained and after several weeks assist as prayer intercessors for all following the 8 and 10:30 am worship on Sunday mornings. We believe and encourage teams top anoint with oil and offer intercessory prayer for those requesting spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. As Jesus trained his disciples to go forth and continue the ministry of healing he had begun so we to offer ourselves as instruments of Christ’s healing to this broken world as needed. See Fr. Bob Kem or Deacon Kathy Tripses for this training. 964-5152.

Centering Prayer Thursdays 7:00 p.m.: A group of ten adults from several area churches meet each Thursday for the practice of Centering Prayer. We hope to deepen our relationship with the Living Christ through prayer. Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer by preparing our faculties to receive this gift. In the Christian tradition, Contemplative Prayer is considered the pure gift of God. It is the opening of mind and heart, our whole being to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts world and emotions. Centering prayer is an attempt to present the teaching of earlier times of the first practice of Christian prayer in an updated form.

Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other forms of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning to them. Centering Prayer tends to build communities of faith and bonds members together in mutual friendship and love. Contact Fr. Bob Kem for more information at 964-5152 or rector@saechurch.org.
