On May 10 to 19 of 2007, St. Anne’s combined with other Episcopal churches to host their first medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic. This was an opportunity to go into a poor area of San Marcos and help provide medical care and doctors’ visits for the first time for many mothers, children and families. The love and care from members of this team, made this a mission of love. Over $8,000 was raised for this mission, providing some $100,000 worth of drugs and pharmaceuticals that were shared with these first time patients. A silent auction and benefit dinner was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Ankeny.

This was a ten-day trip and drew medical professionals from St. Anne’s and across the United States. Team members were: Andrew and Kimberly Kem (nurse), Julia Bacdayan and Sarah Bao-Angan (nurses), Donna Hendrick, Lorene Harris (nursing instructor), Dr. Terry Shively (dentist) Geoff Skinner, Rev. Bob Kem (spiritual director), Jim Wettestad, Rev. Ray Miller, Dr. Chris Buresh, Linda Hegeland and Robert Sojka.
