St. Anne’s International Youth Choir

Natalie Steenson is no stranger to forming choirs and teaching music.  She leads music instruction for pre-school through adults.  She stays active in teaching the importance of music and worship working together in church settings. She often provides private voice and instrumental lessons.  Natalie also directs the Iowa Youth Chorus and met two of our youth Anja Gjullin and Annika Baker who have participated in Iowa Youth Chorus over the past few years.

Natalie has embraced the vision of our leadership at St. Anne’s to help us sponsor an International Youth  Choir for ages 3-12 here at St. Anne’s.  Already the joy and enthusiasm from our youth has been evident in their rehearsals.

Natalie Steenson graduated with a BA in vocal music and religion from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Natalie is a trained and licensed early childhood music educator and has taught early childhood music for children and families from birth through age seven for over 13 years.  She is currently an instructor with Iowa Youth Chorus’ Beginnings! early childhood music program, directs Iowa Youth Chorus’ Primary Choir for 6-7 year olds, and is one of the instructors of Children’s Choir for 3rd through 5th grade.

As a member of Des Moines’ Metro Arts Alliance, she also provides educational outreach music workshops for elementary-aged children filled with singing, music-making and interactive storytelling.  Natalie also teaches preschool and early elementary music at Sayre Montessori School.  Since college, she has directed various church choirs and liturgical art expression for children, youth and adults, and is often a featured soloist for church and community events.  Natalie also plays and performs on the lever harp.  She is married to David, and has home-schooled their two daughters, Elaina, 16 and Anna, 14.

Natalie has been hired by the Roanridge Grant Program to help us build a strong community among our youth through music. We are blessed to have Natalie with us and you will see the choir perform at the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday, October 9 at our Flag Raising Event.  All youth are welcome to join and bring friends to this group as well.

Rehearsals are scheduled for Wednesday,  September 7, September 21 and October 5.  Other rehearsal times will be announced.

Please welcome Natalie Steenson at rehearsals on Wednesday or on Sunday mornings when the youth sing during our special music programs at worship.
